Josh Jacobs explains his decision to move from the Raiders to the Packers.

The Las Vegas Raiders experienced significant roster changes this offseason, including the departure of key players. Among them was Josh Jacobs, the running back who signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Green Bay Packers.

Although Jacobs faced injuries last season, he had been a First-Team All-Pro and the NFL’s leading rusher the previous year. Despite his desire to return to the Raiders, negotiations didn’t lead to a new deal after playing under the franchise tag last year.

Reflecting on his decision, Jacobs revealed to Scott Thompson of Fox News Digital that he felt the Raiders weren’t eager to bring him back: “Ultimately, I wanted to return, but during negotiations, their decision made mine pretty straightforward.”

Reportedly, the Raiders were unwilling to match the Packers’ offer of $12 million annually, prompting Jacobs to move on. He believes he’ll find stability in Green Bay, something he felt was lacking with the Raiders due to frequent coaching changes.

While the Raiders have undergone significant leadership changes, Jacobs hopes they’ve now established stability with Tom Telesco in the front office and Antonio Pierce as head coach. Ultimately, Jacobs made a decision that he believes is best for his career, while the Raiders acted in what they deemed best for their future.

Gardner Minshew is optimistic about the Raiders’ offense, believing it has the potential to achieve great things in 2024. Despite the loss of Josh Jacobs, the team remains confident in their running game with Zamir White supported by newcomer Alexander Mattison. Additionally, rookie tight end Brock Bowers, alongside Michael Mayer, an improved offensive line, and standout receivers like Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers, bolster the offense’s capabilities.

Minshew emphasized that with a wealth of weapons and the strategic guidance of new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, the Raiders have the opportunity to become exceptionally formidable next season.
