The 12-hour football marathon by the Scarborough players raises £7,777 for the Leeds Rob Burrow Center.
Football players from Scarborough played five-a-side for 12 hours straight in an effort to raise an incredible £7,777 for the Rob Burrow MND Center in Leeds.
In support of the Rob Burrow MND center in Leeds, 22 men participated in five-a-side football from Friday, May 31, 9 p.m., till Saturday, June 1, 9 a.m. “With the support of a business match sponsor, team sponsors, ball sponsors, and many generous Scarborough individuals we raised the amazing and very meaningful (Rob’s number was 7) total of £7,777,” stated Paul Tymon, the organizer and player.
One of the 22 players, local DJ Paddy Billington, promoted the event the entire time.
The Leeds Hospital charity has always provided us with inspirational support, which has inspired us. Thanks to generous donations of water and sports drinks, the football players made it through the entire 12-hour period. To maintain a positive vibe, the organizers even scheduled the delivery of pizzas.
“The boys were amazing from start to finish and were so passionate about the cause,” Paul Tymon continued. “There was a lot of laughter and excellent football that night. About 5 am, the standard started to decline, but we all persevered through to the finish. “We are incredibly appreciative of the amazing Scarborough community for the incredible amount raised.” “It was a privilege to be involved in the event and to play a tiny part in helping to get the Rob Burrow MND Center established,” stated Shaun Tymon, another player.
We appreciate Rob and Kev Sinfield for their inspiration, as well as Paul and his staff for their excellent organisation. “I was humbled by the cause and thrilled by the camaraderie, but I was shattered at the end.” “It was an amazing night supporting a great charity,” commented Chris Rooke, a fellow player. “To raise what we did is a credit to the people of Scarborough and beyond for supporting this madness.” “We were equal parts shattered and proud when we finished.” “There are so many people to thank,” Paul Tymon continued. “First of all, a huge thank you to all of the players who sacrificed a weekend and a month of their lives to fight through fatigue and agony in order to raise a significant amount of money for this wonderful cause and charity. And the wonderful Scarborough.
