NHRA LEGEND CONTINUES RECOVERY FROM FIERY CRASH
Houston, TX – July 21, 2024
John Force, the 16-time NHRA Funny Car world champion, remains hospitalized following a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other injuries sustained in a fiery crash at the Virginia Nationals on June 23, 2024.
Force, 73, was airlifted to a hospital in Richmond, Virginia, after his Funny Car exploded during the second round of eliminations, sending him careening into the concrete guard wall at over 300 miles per hour.
According to his medical team, Force has made progress in his recovery, but faces a long and difficult road ahead.
“John’s injuries are severe, and he’s got a tough journey ahead of him,” said Dr. Jerry Johnston, Force’s primary physician. “We’re taking it one day at a time and doing everything we can to support his recovery.
Force’s family, including his wife, Laurie, and daughters, Brittany and Ashley, have been by his side throughout his hospitalization.
“We’re grateful for the outpouring of support from the racing community and fans around the world,” said Brittany Force, John’s daughter and fellow NHRA driver. “We’re taking it one day at a time and staying positive.
The NHRA community continues to rally around Force, with fans and fellow competitors sending well wishes and messages of support.
