Drag racing legend John Force, injured in 300-mph crash, returns home to Southern California

John Force, the drag racing legend from Southern California, has transitioned to outpatient care weeks after a terrifying 300-mph crash left him hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury, his family reported this week.

The 75-year-old Force, originally from Bell Gardens and currently residing in Yorba Linda, returned home on Monday after spending 15 days in a Virginia hospital and receiving treatment at a rehabilitation center in Arizona, according to his family.

“He finally gets to sleep in his own bed,” his daughter Ashley Force Hood shared in a statement from John Force Racing. On Instagram, daughter Brittany Force posted a photo of her father smiling and giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed.

Force was released from the Barrow Neurological Institute, where he had been undergoing rehab since early July. He will now continue his recovery at home with outpatient care, including speech, occupational, and physical therapy for ongoing short-term memory and cognitive challenges.

“Peace out Phoenix! After 30 days, my dad is finally heading home where we will continue outpatient therapy,” Brittany Force wrote on Instagram. “These next steps in recovery will definitely be a family effort!”
