REIGNING CHAMP ERICA ENDERS-STEVENS KNOCKED OUT OF NHRA PRO STOCK COMPETITION BY ROOKIE SENSATION CAMRIE CARUSA
In a stunning turn of events, reigning NHRA Pro Stock champion Erica Enders-Stevens was eliminated from competition by rookie driver Camrie Carusa in the quarterfinals of the NHRA Sonoma Nationals.
Carusa, driving her Chevrolet Camaro, pulled off the upset of the season with a blistering pass of 6.527 seconds at 210.44 mph, edging out Enders-Stevens’ 6.535 seconds at 210.28 mph.
I’m speechless,” said Carusa. “To take down the champ like that is just incredible. My team has worked so hard to get me to this point.
Enders-Stevens, a four-time Pro Stock champion, was gracious in defeat. Camrie drove a great race and deserved the win. We’ll regroup and come back stronger next time.
The upset has sent shockwaves through the NHRA Pro Stock paddock, with many questioning if Enders-Stevens’ reign as champion is coming to an end.
