John Force, the drag racing champion who sustained a traumatic brain injury in a dramatic NHRA crash in Virginia less than two weeks ago, has been moved out of intensive care. His team reports that Force, 75, has been transferred from neuro-intensive care to acute neuro care at the hospital where he was airlifted on June 23.
John Force Racing announced that the latest progress for the 16-time NHRA champion was a positive development for his family, although they acknowledged that “the journey ahead will be long and challenging.”
The statement highlighted that despite experiencing cognitive and behavioral symptoms from his traumatic brain injury, Force’s ability to communicate with medical staff, family members, and John Force Racing president Robert Hight, who visited this week, is a hopeful sign. However, there have been moments of confusion that doctors say will need time and patience to address.
The update also mentioned that Force has regained enough balance to walk with the aid of medical staff. His family indicated that the next step will be transferring the racing icon to a long-term facility specializing in traumatic brain injuries and related conditions.
