Crew Chiefs Fined After Homestead Controversy.
NASCAR has suspended Truck Series driver Conner Jones of ThorSport Racing (No. 66) for this weekend’s race at Martinsville Speedway, following a review of his incident with Matt Mills at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Jones had been penalized two laps during the race for colliding with Mills, sending his truck into the wall, where it briefly caught fire. Mills, who was later hospitalized for smoke inhalation, has since been released.
Jones, frustrated over what he claimed were repeated blocks by Mills, went on an expletive-filled rant over team radio. After the incident, he initially declined comment but later issued an online apology.
Additionally, Front Row Motorsports crew chief Dylan Cappello was fined and suspended after a pre-race technical violation, which included the confiscation of their truck’s steering wheel and a 10-point deduction in the Truck Series standings.
In other penalties, three Xfinity Series crew chiefs—Mardy Lindley (JR Motorsports No. 1), Andy Street (RCR No. 21), and Joe Williams (RSS Racing No. 39)—were each fined $5,000 for having an unsecured lug nut. Truck Series crew chief Charles Walter was also fined $2,500 for the same issue on Spire Motorsports’ No. 71.
