Transforming Sports from Grassroots to Elite: Liam Farrell Partners with…..

An Impact At Every Level Of The Game.

Wigan Warriors Captain Liam Farrell is

throwing his support behind the

University of Central Lancashire’s

(UCLan) “Making Sport Better at Every

Level” campaign, which aims to open up

career opportunities in sports for people

of all backgrounds. Farrell, a UCLan

alumnus with a degree in strength and

conditioning, joins fellow graduates in

advocating for the campaign,

demonstrating how education in sports

science, coaching, and nutrition can lead

to impactful careers across grassroots

and elite sports levels.

Reflecting on his journey, Farrell shared

that his time at UCLan helped him

deepen his understanding of

performance and prepare for a future

beyond rugby league. Now studying for a

Master’s degree, Farrell emphasized the

value of education for anyone looking to

advance personally and professionally in

sports.

The campaign arrives amid a growing

sports industry, particularly in the North

West, where jobs in sports and exercise

science are expected to rise by 3% by

2031—almost double the national

average, according to labor analysts

Lightcast. Through the campaign, UCLan

is spotlighting how its degrees equip

students with the skills to drive change

and improve the sports industry, from

local teams to national champions.

Tom Fitzpatrick, Head of Welfare at

Wigan Warriors, praised UCLan’s long-

standing partnership with the club,

which provides world-class resources

and learning opportunities for players.

“They’ve supported numerous players

and staff in advancing their careers,” he

noted. Rebecca Webb, Head of

Partnerships, added, “UCLan’s

commitment to career development has

been invaluable to the Warriors’ growth

and success.”

With this powerful campaign, Farrell and

UCLan aim to inspire the next generation

of sports professionals to make an

impact at every level of the game.
