Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel spoke to reporters on Monday ahead of his team’s upcoming College Football Playoff matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
At one point during the press conference, Heupel was asked if Tennessee will have anything new (schematically) prepared for the game against Ohio State.
Heupel maintained a straight face — until a wide smile appeared following his answer — while telling reporters that the Vols will be the exact same on offense, defense, and special teams as they have been all season.
“We have nothing new defensively, offensively, or [on] special teams,” said Heupel. “We’ll be exactly what we’ve done.
No one is buying that — especially not Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.
Heupel, of course, knows that. This isn’t some elaborate gamesmanship from the fourth-year Vols head coach. No one is expecting Tennessee to completely overhaul their offense/defense before playing Ohio State, but there’s no doubt that the Vols will have a few new wrinkles prepared for the Buckeyes.
