BRAVES LEGEND FALLS: Brian Snitker Passes Away at 68, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Leadership and Love
Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Braves organization and the entire baseball community are mourning the loss of beloved manager Brian Snitker, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 68.
With a remarkable 45-year tenure with the Braves, including six seasons as manager, Snitker leaves behind a profound legacy of leadership, dedication, and love for the game. His journey with the team began as a minor league coach, where he built his reputation as a mentor and a father figure to countless players.
“Brian was more than just a manager; he was a father figure, mentor, and friend to everyone in the organization,” said Braves Chairman Terry McGuirk. “His impact on our team and the game will never be forgotten.”
Under Snitker’s guidance, the Braves experienced significant success, winning two National League East division titles and culminating in a thrilling victory at the 2021 World Series. His ability to connect with players and cultivate a winning culture was unmatched.
“Brian’s passion, wisdom, and kindness inspired countless players, coaches, and staff,” said Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos. “He embodied the Braves’ spirit and will be deeply missed.”
Players, alumni, and fans took to social media to pay tribute. Ronald Acuña Jr. reflected, “Brian Snitker was a true leader and mentor. He changed my life and career. Rest in peace, Skip.” Former Brave Freddie Freeman added, “Brian’s legacy extends far beyond the field. He was a good man, and I’m honored to have known him.”
The Braves have announced a memorial service at Truist Park on Friday to celebrate Snitker’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the Snitker family requests donations to the Braves Foundation, which supports youth baseball initiatives.
