The Phillies are poised for another strong season as they continue to refine and elevate their pitching staff.
In a move that signals a new chapter for the Phillies’ pitching staff, the team has announced the promotion of Mark
Lowy to assistant pitching coach. The decision comes just a day after Brian Kaplan, the former assistant pitching
coach and director of pitching development, made the jump to the Arizona Diamondbacks to take on their pitching
coach role.
Lowy, 32, has been with the Phillies since 2021, initially joining the organization as a part-time employee in the
player development department. Over the years, he’s climbed the ranks, transitioning from a pitching development
analyst to an upper-level pitching coordinator in 2023, before becoming the lead pitching development analyst for
the major league team in 2024. His deep understanding of pitching mechanics and player development has made
him a rising star within the organization.
A Gettysburg College alum, Lowy has a background in elite player development, having previously worked alongside
Kaplan at Cressey Sports Performance in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This connection paved the way for his
transition to the Phillies, and now, he steps into a key role on the big league staff.
In addition to Lowy’s promotion, the Phillies confirmed that pitching coach Caleb Cotham will return for his fifth
season with the team, while Cesar Ramos will return for a second season as bullpen coach.
Kaplan, who was instrumental in the Phillies’ pitching development over the past three seasons, leaves a strong
legacy behind. As a co-founder of Cressey Sports Performance, he brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the
Phillies’ pitching staff. Kaplan’s departure comes as Sam Fuld, who originally recruited him to the organization, is
shifting gears, stepping back from his general manager duties to pursue an MBA at Wharton and transition into a
new role as the Phillies’ president of business operations in 2026.
With new leadership and fresh perspectives, the Phillies are poised for another strong season as they continue to
refine and elevate their pitching staff.
